Buying First Airsoft Gun

If you are in the market for an Airsoft gun, make sure that you do not purchase one purely for its looks unless you are planning to only use it for a prop. This is because the more expensive AEGs will easily cost you about $500 or more. However, you really do not want to waste your money on any of the cheap AEGs because they barely work, even if you are just a novice. If you are actually new to the Airsoft sport and you are not a minor, then you should try a mid-range AEG that shoots 250+ fps. The reason why these guns are not recommended for younger children is because some of them can actually pierce a person's skin.

Another type of gun that is quite powerful, and oftentimes a good alternative to an AEG, is a gas powered handgun. Because of the fact that these guns use gas power, they are very high powered and perform on a very high level. On the other hand, you will find that electric handguns are of low velocity. Of course, there are some modifications that you can do to make your gun more powerful. For instance, you can take out the semi-automatic strip and change your gun into a full-auto hand gun or you can add an extended clip and more battery power to increase your gun's speed and distance. However, these things are going to take some time and experience to learn how to do properly.

Some of the other things that you should be on the lookout for whenever you are purchasing an Airsoft gun include:

  1. Take a moment to look at what the gun is made out of. You cannot necessarily trust what a seller tells you that the gun is made out of either. This is because most sellers will brag about how much metal is in the gun.
  2. Take some time to look at the gun's specs, especially when it comes to things like fps or muzzle velocity.
  3. Make sure you know what the gun's hop-up is. This is what you will want to adjust when you want to either increase or decrease the spin that a BB takes. If you want your BBs to have more spin and more accuracy so that they will reach longer distances, then you will want them to have more hop.
  4. If you are going to get accessories such as scopes, make sure that you also have the proper mounts that they will need.
  5. You should not be fooled by a lot of accessories. While a lot of companies will put in things like lasers, scopes, tripods, lights etc. you should not purchase a gun for these reasons. These things may be cool but they will usually either die or break after your first couple times of use. The only reason that they are included is to distract buyers from the real product, which is the gun itself.
